Furniture delivery problems
Furniture not delivered in Ireland: complain and ask for a refund
A sofa, bed or garden furniture order has not arrived. Check the promised date, contact the seller and prepare a clear delivery or refund complaint.
Check your dispute first
Answer a few questions to see your options before writing your complaint.
Check your optionsIf your furniture has not arrived, contact the retailer that sold it to you with the order number and agreed delivery date. Explain whether you still want delivery or want to cancel, and ask for a written reply. Where the retailer arranged delivery, your complaint belongs with the retailer rather than being left for you to settle with its courier.
Check the date you agreed
CCPC guidance says goods should arrive within 30 days unless you agreed a different period. A made-to-order sofa may have a longer agreed lead time, so keep the order confirmation and any later date you accepted. Record each missed promise.
Delivery or cancellation
If you still want the order, ask for a suitable delivery date you can agree to. CCPC explains that cancellation and a full refund can be available where delivery cannot be rearranged within a suitable period or is no longer appropriate in the circumstances. Explain why that applies to your order. Do not assume every short delay gives the same remedy.
CCPC says a refund following cancellation for non-delivery includes delivery fees and must be made within 14 days. If you independently engaged the courier, the responsibility may differ. Damaged furniture is a separate issue: retain photos and report what arrived rather than describing it as non-delivery.
A message you can adapt
“I ordered [item] on [date] for delivery on [agreed date]. It has not arrived. We have since discussed [dates and promises]. I am asking for [a suitable delivery date / cancellation and a refund, with reasons]. Please confirm your position in writing.” Use only the option that reflects what you want; this is illustrative wording.
If the retailer does not resolve it
Keep the written response and contact your card provider promptly if you want to ask about chargeback. Ask which deadline and documents apply. If the business has issued a restructuring or creditor notice, check that specific process before assuming an ordinary refund complaint is sufficient.
